

Robert Howard Keene, 93, of Brunswick, GA, formerly of Saint Simons, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, February 18 after a brief illness. He was born in Marion, IN, on April 30, 1922, the son of the late Waldo Keene and Mrs. Florence Sutherland Keene. He was affectionately called "Bullet Bob" by his friends and co-workers. He was a Hoosier by birth and a Bulldog by the grace of God!
In WWII he served as a Marine in the Pacific Theatre which included Guadalcanal. He also served 23 years in the Air Force and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. He went on to work at Sea Island Co., FLETC, and the DEA. He will always be remembered for his passion for golf. He began as a caddy at Meshingomesia Golf Club at the age of 8.
Bob is survived by his wife of 71 years, May Marsline Keene, and his children: Karen Keene Braswell (Rance) of SSI, son-in-law George Lowry Jr. (Deborah) of Bwk, Robert Kenneth Keene (Kathy) of Bwk, and Jonathan Edgar Keene of Bwk. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Robert Jonathan Strader (Tracy) of Marietta, Martha Anne Johnson of SSI, Michelle Lowry Brantley (Jeff) of Colbert, George Lowry III of SSI, Angela Keene of Bwk, Jenniffer Melissa Keene (Brady) of Athens, and also three great-grandchildren: Matthew, Jacob, and Ethan Brantley of Colbert. Bob is also survived by his brother Kenneth Keene (Lou) of Holland, MI, and his sister-in-law Barbara Kirby Nelson of Marion, IN.
The family will receive family and friends on Sunday Feb 21, at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, Feb 22 at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on SSI.
The Keene family offers gratitude to the great staff at the Hospice of the Golden Isles. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice of the Golden Isles would be appreciated.
