Robert Edgar Perry III, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community servant, passed away surrounded by the legacy of a life well lived. Born in Valdosta, Georgia, in 1949, Bob moved with his family to Glynn County in 1958, where he would form lifelong roots and friendships.
He graduated from The Bolles School in 1967 and went on to earn a degree in civil engineering from Clemson University in 1971. He began his professional career with Georgia Power, where he worked at Plant Hatch and served as a project manager during the early construction of both Plant Hatch and Plant Vogtle.
A man deeply committed to education and community, Bob served the Vidalia City Schools for a decade, including as chairman from 1980 to 1990. He later worked as a project manager for Piedmont Construction in Vidalia. In 1992, he returned to St. Simons Island, where he managed the construction of Greer, Goodyear, and Needwood schools, as well as the renovation of St. Simons Elementary School. He retired from the construction industry in 2009, leaving behind a lasting impact on the communities and students he served.
Bob’s faith and service were central to his life. He served as Junior Warden at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church, was a board member of Hello Good Buy, volunteered at Manna House, and mentored numerous students throughout Glynn County, generously sharing his time, wisdom, and encouragement.
In one of life’s most cherished stories, Bob met his future bride in 1958, when they were classmates in the fourth grade at Goodyear School. He and Patricia Smith Perry were married on December 19, 1970, and shared 55 years of a loving marriage. Above all his accomplishments, Bob held most dear his roles as a son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Robert Edgar Perry Jr.; his mother, Katherine Sugden Perry; and his sister, Katherine Perry Clarke.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Smith Perry; his daughters, Elizabeth Keller Bacon (Douglas), Martha Anne Bland (R.
