

Ruth was one of six children born to Talmadge DeWitt Towns and Lola Virginia Bowen Towns. After graduating from high school, Ruth married Harry Julian Ward. The couple had two children and, in 1965, relocated the family to Brunswick. Ruth mas a member of Brunswick First Baptist Church, taught adult Sunday school and was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four siblings, Georgia Mae Bryan, Ann Garnto, Sarah Marie Dean and Martha Thompson. Her stepfather, J.C. Dean, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, H. Julian Ward, Jr. (June) of Statesboro and Walter D. Ward of Brunswick; five grandchildren, Christopher Ward of Decatur, GA., Bradley Ward (Rosanna) of Statesboro, Mallory Ward and Meredith Hunter (Kilah), both of Brunswick and April Wade (Jason) of Savannah; four great-grandchildren, Knox and Emily Ruth Ward of Statesboro and Amelia and Avery Wade of Savannah and a brother, John Dean of Hazlehurst. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be on Sunday at 3:00 pm in Telfair Memorial Gardens in McRae.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brunswick First Baptist Church Missions Fund, 708 Mansfield St., Brunswick.
