Scott Harvey Hunter of Fort Washington, MD, died in Brunswick, GA on March 29, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Scott was born in Independence, MO on July 6, 1945. He was the eldest of three children (Susan Hunter Khoury, Craig Hunter). Scott was raised in the Oxon Hill, MD area, graduating from Oxon Hill High School in 1963, where he met his future wife, Kathy (Robey). They were together for 65 years.
Scott graduated with a BA in Education from Graceland College in Lamoni, IA in 1967, where he was also recognized by Sports Illustrated magazine as an All-American football player, starting for four years as a linebacker with the Yellow Jackets.
After graduation and the birth of their first son (Jeff), Scott and Kathy returned to the Oxon Hill area, where Scott spent the next 33 years teaching physical education at Eugene Burroughs Middle School in Accokeek, MD. He was beloved by both students and staff. While teaching, Scott continued his academic studies at George Washington University (Washington, DC), where he was awarded a Master’s degree in School Administration. Along the way, Scott and Kathy had two more children, a son (Dean) and a daughter (Stacie).
Scott enjoyed hunting in western Maryland and reveled in telling stories of his cherished 350 pound black bear and hunting prowess with turkeys and deer. He loved traveling coast-to-coast on his two Harley Davidson motorcycles with Kathy and brother and sister-in-law Bill and Vicki Robey. Sometimes, he even rode his Harley with his two shit-tzu’s. Scott had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed cross-country road-trips with the family during summer vacations.
Scott and Kathy did much international travel promoting awareness of Rett syndrome, a neurological disorder which his daughter, Stacie, was diagnosed with when she was young. Their travels took them to worldwide destinations, from Russia to Australia, Japan, Brazil and many countries in Europe.
Scott will be remembered for his charm and good humor. He loved people and they loved him back.
