Susan Osborn Keagy, 30 year resident of St. Simons Island, passed away peacefully on Friday Jan. 21, 2011 in the loving presence of her three children.
Born on November 7, 1919 in Cincinnati Ohio, she attended Northwestern University in Chicago, joined Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and studied liberal arts. This is also where she met her future husband of 60 years, George Christian Keagy of Richmond Indiana. Soon she became a” Navy wife” as “Chris”, a naval flight instructor, ascended to the rank of Lt. Commander, and in the process survived WW II.
Soon thereafter they took up residence in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. where they lived from the early ’50 s to the early ’80 s.
In her life Susan always loved the English language and grammar and as such was a roracious reader, and thus a long – time member of The Readers Book Club and The Ivy League Book Club.
Famous in her family as a tenacious and skilled crossword puzzle solver, she even completed many tough New York Crosswords down through the years.
Most of all, Susan liked to discover bits of humor and irony in the daily news, along with examples of the foibles of human nature found therein. These she always enjoyed clipping out and mailing to friends and family. Finally Susan was an imaginative and cunning bridge player, and fun to be around. Elegant and graceful, Susan was a loyal friend to all, willing to listen but not to judge; slow to anger but instead compassionate and kind. She volunteered her time to the Junior League and Red Cross, among others.
Surviving family members are her children Christie Weisberg, Philip B. Keagy, and C. Osborn Keagy and their families. Also five grandchildren, and three great- grandchildren.
