Born March 10, 1937, in Blakely, Georgia, to John and Ruby Jarrett, Katy was the youngest of six children. She married James Cecil Dickerson on April 4, 1956, and they lived in Savannah and Thomasville before settling in Brunswick, Georgia. As a mother of three young children, Katy began working for the city of Brunswick as a bookkeeper, where she was employed for over 20 years before retiring.
A faithful and devoted daughter of Christ, and founding member of Carteret Road Church of Christ in Brunswick, Katy’s greatest joy was serving the Lord by serving others. She loved teaching Sunday School, growing beautiful plants, reading her Bible and Louis L’Amour westerns, and helping visually impaired people obtain sight through her work with the Gateway Lions Club. She would spend most of her Saturdays going to every yard sale in Glynn County, endlessly searching for things that she knew people were in need of.
Preceded in death by her husband, James C. Dickerson; her daughter, Karen Dickerson; her son-in-law, Allen Reddick (Donna); her grandson, Hugh Phelps; and all of her siblings. Katy’s love for her family was fiercely unconditional. She will be fondly missed every single day by her remaining family: Kenny Dickerson and his wife Lisa; Donna Kelly and her husband Chip; her grandchildren David, Lacey, Brittany, and Lorrie; her great-grandchildren Cady, Brayden, Kenzie, Kabela, Chloe, Jason, Remington, Ava, Kimber, Kase, Kingsley, Zeb, and Chase; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:30 to 11:30 on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, Ga. Immediately following, our beloved Susie Kate, Nana, will be laid to rest beside her husband of 59 years at Chapel Park Cemetery, eulogized by Bubba Hodge, followed by a fellowship at Carteret Road Church of Christ. If your life was touched by Katy’s love or prayers, we would love for you to attend.
Her calling in this life was truly to help others, and for many years Katy supported the Grace House of Brunswick, a sober living facility helping women reclaim their lives with Jesus’ love. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace House in Katy’s honor.
The family wishes to thank the loving caregivers of Viera Nursing and Rehabilitation and St. Francis Hospice for the outstanding care and love you provided to our Mom and Nana, Mrs Susie.
In her words, “This, too, shall pass.” We love you, Nana.
