

Thelma Jean Parrish, age 85, of Brunswick, Georgia passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Thelma was born in Brunswick, GA and was a 1955 graduate of Glynn Academy. Thelma was also a graduate of the US Army Medical Specialist Program at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She served her country honorably in the old U.S. Army Air Corps as a nurse. She graduated from Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, NC earning her nursing license. Mrs. Thelma was also a certified EMT in North Carolina. She was a longtime beloved employee of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Her soft spoken and compassionate voice will always be remembered.
Thelma loved her Lord and her family. Another favorite pastime Thelma enjoyed was her church work. She was a past member of Lakeside United Methodist Church, a Lifetime member of the Church of the Nazarene and a current active member at Calvary Baptist Church. She received her certification for teaching youth and was a registered teacher in the Nazarene Church. In the early 1970’s, Thelma organized and directed the Jr. Bible Quizzing on the NC District of the Nazarene Church. Her teams won the NC Nazarene District State championship every year she coached. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Thelma is preceded death by her parents, Lee T. Joyner, Sr. and Marjorie Yarbrough Joyner; as well as her husband of 64 years, Rev. Earl V. Parrish, Sr.; and 7 siblings, Margaret Blount, Lily Mae Clay, Betty McConnell, William Elliot Joyner, Buster, Pete, and Sonny Joyner. Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Rip, Brent and Rev. Dodd Parrish (Sheila); her surviving siblings, Ann Ehrlich, Doris Hanson, twin brother Buddy Joyner and Vivian DeCurtis. Also 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews survive.
A Visitation to honor memories of Sister Thelma will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 10:00 am at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 am with burial in Palmetto Cemetery. Pastor Don Spires and Pastor Dodd Parrish will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be: Dodd Parrish, Sr., Brent Parrish, DJ Parrish, Jr., Chad Parrish, Micah Parrish, Dwight Parrish lll, and Tony Collins. Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Joyner and the children of Calvary Baptist Church.
