

Thomas W. Clavin, 91, of Brunswick departed this life Monday, April 17, 2017 at Senior Care Center in Brunswick. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 6 p.m. in the chapel at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Born April 27, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Joseph P. and Pauline W. Clavin, he joined the US Marine Corps at the age of 17. Mr. Clavin was a combat veteran of WWII in the Pacific Theater. He served in campaigns that included Guadalcanal, Peleliu, and Okinawa. He was also part of a group selected to accept the surrender of the Japanese Army in North China and subsequently served in Tientsin, China. A former resident of Marietta, Georgia, he retired to McIntosh County in 1983. He later moved to Glynn County in 1992. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and a former member of K. of C., and Marine Corps League. Mr. Clavin was an avid fisherman, rascal, and self-avowed “sportsman and ogre.” He spent the majority of his professional life in the Carpet Industry and was CEO of Monarch Majestic Carpets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Priest and Marilyn Frietsche.
Survivors include Denise Drinks and Dave Drinks of Reno, NV; Casey Clavin and Vic Koch of Smyrna, GA; Patty Welsh of Arroyo Grande, CA; Mary Dale Keller of Demorest, GA; Jessie Clavin and M. Schowe of Brunswick, GA; Grandchildren Michelle Drinks, Matt Drinks, Miranda Keller and Samuel Keller; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
