Tony’s family moved to St. Simons Island when he was in the third grade. He and his two brothers quickly adapted to their new home, loving the island world of the 1970’s and 1980’s. From this, Tony developed a passion for both fishing and water sports.
After graduating from Frederica Academy, he attended Young Harris College for two years and then transferred to Florida State University. There he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity and established friendships that have lasted through the years. A real highlight for Tony was a semester he and friends spent at the FSU campus in London – earning college credits, with weekends for travel. Tony’s years at Florida State produced a Bachelor of Arts Degree in hotel and restaurant administration. His professional choice was Restaurant Management.
Tony’s death followed an eleven-year battle with Huntington’s disease. Upon being diagnosed with the disease in 2013, Tony faced the reality of his diagnosis with peaceful acceptance. Despite the debilitating aspects of his condition, he never complained or allowed himself to engage in self-pity. His grace and courage in dealing with the challenges of the disease were truly an inspiration to his family and all who knew and loved him.
Tony is survived by his mother, Jane W. Wilder; his brothers, Christopher Tolleson (Jean Stacy), Patrick W. Tolleson (Kelly Graves), sister, Kathryn B. Tolleson, and nieces, Charlotte Wilder Tolleson and Caitlyn Pace Tolleson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Mission Fund at St Simons Community Church to Aid to Israel through the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assoc. or to the Huntington Disease Assoc. of America.
A memorial service for Tony will occur at St Simons Community Church at 3:00 pm, on November 8, 2024. Arrangements entrusted to Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. www.edomillerandsons.com
