Victor L. Ross

Vic was born March 21, 1948 in Giessen, Germany, the son of Leonard and Riorita Parneva Ross. He graduated from Columbus High School, Columbus, GA and graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1970 where he was Captain of the All American Pistol Team. He then graduated from Ranger school and was Airborne qualified. He also proudly served our country in Vietnam and achieved the rank of Captain during his career. After serving 14 years in the Army, he wanted to continue to pursue the aerospace engineering field. He went on to Stanford University and graduated with a Master’s degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. Vic had resided in St. Simons Island since 2009. He had previously lived and worked in California for Boeing and for NASA. His excellence in the field lead him to work for several aerospace/defense companies in Huntsville, AL as well as Bradenton, FL.

When not working, he enjoyed reading, travel, attending NFL games and music concerts, playing the harmonica and spending time with his grandchildren. His biggest passion was for physical fitness, weight training and body building. No matter where he lived, gym membership at a local fitness center was a given. He had been bodybuilding most of his life, and won multiple trophies. Last spring, February of 2013, he completed and received his certification as a personal fitness trainer.

Vic is survived by his wife, Frankie of St. Simons Island (formerly of Indianapolis, IN); son Milon (Miles) Ross of Tampa, FL; two step-daughters, Jaymie E. Lehrkamp and April C. McNamara, both of Indianapolis, IN, and five grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 7, 2014 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens Cemetery on St. Simons Island. Active pallbearers will be John Blevins, Korey Burnham, Ray Colglazier, Chase Lawrence, Paul Massock and George Verduzco.
