Virginia Mae Fulk Petretti

She was the daughter of the late Arthur Percy Fulk and Ida Mae Fulk of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina; the widow of the late Dr. A. Kenneth Petretti and the mother of Susan and Ellen Petretti who also predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter, Carol V. Petretti, and son-in-law, James A McMahon of Brightwaters, NY. She is also survived by her daughter Anne Knowlson, son-in-law Donnie Knowlson, and grandchildren Byron and Paige Knowlson, of Richmond, VA.

Born and raised in Pilot Mountain, NC, Virginia graduated from UNC-Greensboro and with her father’s reluctant blessing moved to New York City where she worked for Standard Oil and took an apartment with her school chums. After her marriage to Ken Petretti, the couple ultimately settled in Brookhaven Hamlet, on Long Island, New York, where they lived and raised their four daughters. Upon retirement in 1987, Virginia and Ken moved to Saint Simons, Georgia, where they enjoyed the cordial serenity of the island. She was an active member of the ECW of Christ Church, St Simons Island.

Services to celebrate the life of Virginia will be held at Christ Church, 6329 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, GA., at 11 am on Thursday, January 9, 2014. After the service, the family will receive friends at the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church Frederica, designated for The Food Bank.
