
Walter Avis Watson, Jr., age 84, died Thursday, November 17, 2011 surrounded by his family at the Southeast Georgia Health Systems in Brunswick, GA. Born May 13, 1927 in Woodbury, NJ to the late Anne and Walter Watson, he moved to Brunswick, GA and attended Glynn Academy. On January 14, 1949 he married his bride Edwina Dees of Waycross, GA. They had one son Walter Avis Watson III. They were married for forty years. He served his country by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard and then in the United States Air Force. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox. Walter was an avid hunter and wood carver. He has left behind many wonderful memories of hunting with his son and nephews. In addition to his parents, Walter is preceded in death by his wife, Edwina Dees Watson of Waycross, GA and his sister, Phyllis Watson Aloisio of Marietta, GA.
He is survived by his son, Walter Avis Watson III (Lou) of Brunswick, his granddaughter Christal Watson Kuchar (Eric) and great grandson Matthew Joesph Kuchar of St Simons Island, a sister, Janet Cook of Cartersville, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Walter will be deeply missed by all of his friends and family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 p.m. December 3, 2011 at Saint Simons Christian Renewal Church, 6530 Frederica Road Saint Simons Island, GA 31522, with Pastor Mike Murray officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Heartland Hospice, 664 Scranton Rd. Brunswick, GA 31525.
