Billy was born in Sumter, South Carolina and moved to the Golden Isles with his family at the age of eleven. Brunswick has always been ‘home’ to him and it is where he built his life and business, Lawrence General Contracting, Inc.
Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 40 years, Linda Lawrence, his sister, Sarah June Lawrence, and his parents William “Coke” Lawrence and Henrietta Curtis Lawrence. He is survived by his adoring fiancé Vicky Goodyear; “Brother” Joseph Curtis Lawrence of New Smyrna Beach, FL; “Niece Rach” Breanne Sterling (Jamie) of Palm City, FL, “Nephew Ryan” Curtis Lawrence (Amanda) of St. Augustine, FL; two great-nieces: Hayley and Lyla Lawrence; and, one great-nephew Sailor Sterling.
Billy will be remembered as a true Southern gentleman who was generous, kind and a peacemaker. He was a man of his word and he gave without expecting anything in return. Billy never met a stranger and found the positive in everyone. He was devoted to his family, friends and puppies (Gracie and Beau) and there’s nothing he wouldn’t do to bring a ray of sunshine into someone’s dreary day. Billy was a ‘creature of habit;’ you could even set your watch by him, because at 5:00pm somewhere, he could be seen socializing with a Michelob Ultra in hand. If you ever heard Billy say, “Have I ever told you….?” You knew you were in for one of his jokes or life stories that would have you laughing….even if it was the third time you heard it! Billy loved boating, traveling (even if it was a quick weekend trip to Jacksonville, FL or up to Santee, SC), and getting together with close friends or family. Often times you would hear Billy say in his southern drawl, “I really enjoyed myself, we need to get together again real soon.”
Billy relished life and lived his passionately. His last wish would be that we all do the same.
A memorial will be held at 11:00 am this Saturday, December 12th at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Close family and friends are invited to observe the spreading of his ashes. A celebration of his life will occur at Marshside Grill around 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brain Trauma Foundation or purchase a bracelet to help save the ocean and its wildlife from the Blue Turtle Project.
