William Edwin Champion

Mr. Champion was born on August 20, 1926 in Palatka, Fl. to Thomas Carlos, Sr. and Ethel Wells Champion. A graduate of Glynn Academy High School in 1944, Mr. Champion played fullback for the varsity football team.

Mr. Champion was a Navy veteran and honorably served in World War II. For several years he was the owner and operator of Champion Sundries in Brunswick and later retired from Hercules, Inc. after 33 years of service.

A dedicated and loving father and grandfather, Mr. Champion was an avid coin collector, stamp collector and enjoyed gardening and travel after his retirement.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Thelma Fender Champion, three sons, William “Bill” Edwin Champion, Jr. and Glenn A. Champion (Vicki) both of Jacksonville, Richard K. Champion (Lana) of St. Johns, Fl., two daughters, Shann Cohrs (Matt) of Jacksonville and Rhonda Champion of Lawrenceville, Ga., granddaughter, Abby Champion and grandson Colton Champion, step-grandsons Bill and Steven McNeal of Jacksonville and his dear brother, Thomas Carlos Champion, Jr. of Brunswick.

Mr. Champion was a member of the Fishermen’s Sunday School Class of Norwich Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Monday, Nov. 3rd at Norwich Baptist Church, Brunswick, Ga. with interment to immediately follow with military honors at Palmetto Cemetery.

Dr. Art Cyphers will officiate.

Active pallbearers will be: Colton Champion, Bill McNeal, Steven McNeal, Major General Emmett R Titshaw, Jr., Tim McNair and Clement Posey.

Honorary pallbearers are his men’s Sunday school class of Norwich Baptist Church, Doc Braddock, Bill Diffee, Tommy Dixon, Tommy Miller and Frank Stuckey. And special friend Casey Holloway.

The family will receive friends at Norwich Baptist Church from 10 to 11 AM Monday, Nov. 3rd.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mr. Champion’s name to Norwich Baptist Church, 5661 New Jesup Hwy, Brunswick, Ga 31523.
