William Newton Poole

William Newton “Buddy” Poole, 87, of Darien, departed this life Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Golden Isles Christian Church with Willie Downs officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery.

Born December 28, 1935 in Live Oak, Florida to the late Milton Alvin and Gladys Jewel S. Poole, he was retired from the State of Georgia having worked at Fort King George Historical Site. Mr. Poole had been a resident of McIntosh County for over 50 years. He was a member of Golden Isles Christian Church in Brunswick. He was very creative and enjoyed woodworking and building, fishing, and wrestling. He was known to many as “The Candy Man”, as he gave out peppermints to all he met. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Loutrell Poole, as well as five siblings.

Survivors include three children, Jewel Marie Poole of Darien, William Alvin “Bo” Poole and wife Donna of Ellisville, MS, and Janice Loreece Poole Beecher of Darien, five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren.
