Dr. William B. Walker

William Burgess Walker, DDS, 68, of St. Simons Island, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 at Hospice of the Golden Isles after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 7, 2010, at 3 PM in the chapel of Edo Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Eick officiating. The family will be receiving at Edo Miller at 2:00 prior the service. There will also be a visitation Saturday, November 6, from 5 to 7 PM at the Rountree home at 110 Jones Creek Drive, St. Simons Island.

Dr. Walker was the second son of the late Grace and Henry Walker of Sandtown, Georgia. At age 16 he was accepted into the early admissions program of Emory at Oxford where he finished his last two years of high school and first two years of college. He went on to earn a BA in history from Emory University and a DDS from the Emory Dental School. After serving three years in the Air Force, he returned to the Emory Dental School and completed a residency in Oral Surgery at Grady Hospital. He practiced as an Oral Surgeon in Brunswick, Georgia, from 1974 until 1998, when he retired after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He was a voracious reader, avid fisherman, prolific photographer, knowledgeable sports fan,wicked trivia expert, tenacious friend, and most importantly of all a proud and loving husband and father. No one who spent any time with Burgess Walker ever forgot him. He was interesting, challenging, and entertaining in ways that one could most appreciate only by experiencing the gifts of his friendship, knowledge, wit, and care.

In addition to his parents Dr. Walker is predeceased by his son, Jared K. Walker.

Survivors include his loving wife, Pat Brown Walker; his daughter, Ginny Walker; and Dr. Ken Walker of Atlanta, his brother.
