He was born on November 28, 1950 in the village of Sitoxori, Serres, Greece. Achilles was raised on a tobacco farm where he learnt many skills from a young age. He was drafted into the army where he was handpicked to become a Green Beret, hidden in the mountains protecting the Greek borders as a sniper. After moving to Canada in 1973 and starting his family in 1976, he became a large part of his community, helping neighbours and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Achilles truly lived life to the fullest through his passions for hunting, gardening, painting, building and tinkering. He was a father, grandfather, business partner with his son, and everyone’s best friend. Achilles was the hardest working man any of us knew, teaching us so many valuable life lessons that we will forever carry on. Always smiling, always lending a helping hand to his family and friends no matter the situation. We will never forget the man he was.
Achilles is survived by his children Ava and Billy; grandchildren Cora, Cohen, Grace, Max and Divina; brothers and sisters Mimi, Vasilako, Marika, Boula, Panayiota; his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family, friends and others whose lives Achilles touched are invited to a Visitation and Prayer Service at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
