Aileen passed away peacefully at the Agape Hospice with her husband at her side on September 28, 2015 at the age of 70 years. Aileen lived an adventurous life filled with friends, family and travel. Even after illness touched her life she went on to travel and live life to the fullest. Her life began in Nepal where she lived until her early 20’s when she moved to Kenora, Ontario to be with her sister Marge and family. She met her husband George there and had her daughter Janice before a brief stint in Pine Point, NWT where her son Bill was born. The family of four then settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba for over a decade before later settling in Calgary, Alberta. Winnipeg is where her lifelong devotion to caring for children began. She started a lunch program that eventually grew to a resource centre for families that needed a little hand up. After moving to Calgary she began a day home where she touched the lives of dozens of children and parents. She had a special kindness that made people feel comfortable and safe. In later years after retirement she was always travelling somewhere between family cruises and summers in Manitoba and Ontario. When illness kept her from travel in her last few months she was devoted to her granddaughter Maya and took comfort in their special times together. Above all Aileen’s priority was her family and she filled their lives with a stability, kindness and unconditional love that will always be felt. Aileen will be sadly missed by her husband George, son Bill, daughter Janice, son in law Blaine, granddaughter Maya, her brother John (Shirley), sisters Marge, Rosie and Philly and all her nieces, nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Thomas, sister Cecelia and brother in laws Bill and Andy. A celebration of Aileen’s life will be held at the North Haven Community Centre, 5003 North Haven Drive N.W., Calgary, Alberta on Sunday October 4 from 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Aileen’s Family would like to extend their many thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Tom Baker, Foothills Hospital and Agape Hospice.
