Born in 1947, in Penticton, British Columbia, Alan built a life rooted in family, friendship, and service. He worked with dedication at Environment Canada, where many will remember hearing his voice on the radio as he read the weather forecast. Living in the Okanagan was a gift for boating, fishing, gardening, and enjoying all that four seasons had to offer.
Alan was an active volunteer with the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, where he taught weather classes, and he also gave his time through Amateur Radio, Emergency Social Services, and as a member of the Kelowna Yacht Club. These communities provided lifelong friendships and countless family memories. Known as “Mr. Fix-It,” Alan was always willing to lend a hand, whether to family, neighbours, or friends. His curiosity and determination carried him through many health challenges over the years.
Alan will be deeply missed by his wife of 54 years, Donna; his daughters Nancy (Brad) and Sandra (Rob); and his grandchildren Zachary, Jessa, Eric, and Graham. He is also remembered by his sister Donna (Warren) Orriss, along with extended family and many friends. Alan was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Hazel Nourse.
In memory of Alan, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada and the Alzheimer Society of Canada. A Celebration of Alan’s Life will be announced at a later date.
