Allen (Al) was born on a homestead near the town of Telfordville, Alberta. He had a varied and successful career as a salesman for such noted companies as Fuller Brush, Electrolux and Meccano Tri-ang. Al also spent many productive years as an entrepreneur including being one of the founding members of the Red Hat Greenhouse Co-operative in Redcliffe, Alberta.
In his retirement years Al enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and took up landscape painting. He wrote and self-published his memoir, “Son of a Pioneer Homesteader.”
Allen is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife Marlene; son Kevin and his wife Mary Welin; son Colin; brother Glen (Jane, Clara); sister-in-law Margaret Thome (John);
brother-in-law Larry Lucas; nephew Greg (Tammy); niece Shelley Schiebelbein (Steve); niece Roxanne Beutnagel; niece Renee Weisgerber (Fred); niece Rhonda Schasser; nephew James Thome; niece Stephanie Lucas; and many great nieces and nephews. Allen is pre-deceased by his nephew Darin Alexander (Denese).
