Bernie passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 in Calgary, Alberta with his Mum by his side. Bernie was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor two years previous.
Bernie was born May 5, 1974 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1978 with his family and since then called Calgary his home.
Bernie is survived by his mother, Joanna Hazeldine (nee Christensen) Halifax, Nova Scotia; Jennifer Azucena, his friend, Calgary, Alberta; and his father, Evan Hazeldine, New Brunswick. Bernie also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins too numerous to mention.
Bernie mastered bowling at an early age of 14 and it became the love of his life. His favourite hobby, along with the gift of cars and tearing them apart and building them again. His tinkering around cars paid off when he worked for Veritas as a mechanic’s helper up north or anywhere the company took him. Bernie had a big heart and would help anyone.
No words can express the heartfelt appreciation to the family and friends who have travelled this journey. An extra special hug goes to the Calgary friends who have been by Bernie’s side since 1978 and you know who you are, many thanks. Bernie’s Mum would like to thank the Angels from the bowling alley who were there to be his private uber drivers. Thank you for your compassion, respect and kindness you showed Bernie through the beginning of his journey and the very special Palliative Angels, Gabe and Abbey.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Foster’s Garden Chapel Funeral Home and Crematorium, Calgary, Alberta.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Robie Street, Halifax, N.S. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Friends of St. Margaret of Scotland, 3751 Robie St., Halifax, Nova Scotia B3K 4T3.
