So sorry to learn of BJ's passing...my sincerest sympathy to all of his family.  I knew BJ from high school and I was always impressed by his ability to and lack of fear of expressing his viewpoint, even if he thought that others might not agree all the while still promoting compromise and consensus.  I am sure this trait held him in good stead in his life.  Although I have not seen BJ since high school, I am happy to know that he continued to be an adventurer, and that he pursued his passion for flying...we had many interesting conversations on that topic. May you continue to enjoy the freedom and wonder of the skies!

I studied Geology with Bjarne at Western - I have great memories of his humour, wit and passion for the real, practical application of the science. I remember he had some ancient BMW that was his pride and joy. He drove us all to various parties, for which he earned much gratitude. I only recently got in touch with him again, and he had great advice on where to see dinosaur footprints  and get great BBQ in Texas. Two top priorities in life!  So sorry I did not get a chance to meet up in person after all these years. My condolences to his family.

Bjarne, the news of your passing has deeply saddened me. Inside that sadness I thankfully find you have provided me with many comforting memories which continue to flood and warm my heart. You were a great friend. I regret not saying as much, but through the years I respected, looked up to, and even tried to emulate you. I will continue to strive to be half the person you were. I have miles to go before I sleep. You will always be ten feet tall.

I was shocked to hear about the passing of BJ and my emotions are running on high.
 The flashbacks of childhood school days and summer time adventures at Sutcliffe park,Oshkosh air show fill my head and I see from other condolences that his adventures have never stopped.  Maybe it is a time to revaluate our lives and remember our dreams and to keep our childhood spirit alive. Life is too short.

Even though I had lost track of BJ over the last years, I will never forget my fond memories of him in high school, we had some good times together.  He was a talented runner back then.  He was also on the first team to ever take a medal (silver) at OFSAA cross country running championships for our high school, along with David Deublebeiss, Derrick Beach, and myself. I was shocked to hear of Bjarne's passing and my sympathies go out to his family and all of us who knew him and worked with him.   Bjarne was great guy,  he was smart,  adventurous,  honest and funny.  He inspired me to take flying lessons.   You'll be missed Bjarne.

My condolences to his family and for losing a husband, a father, a brother and a son at such an early age.   He seemed to have lived life to the fullest.  He travelled a lot, saw the world, learned to fly, raised a family.  He accomplished a great deal in his short life. I have very good memories of working with BJ in mineral exploration, in the early 1990's, around Cobalt, Temagami and Chapleau.   .

As shocked and deeply saddened by his sudden passing as we all are I know that the fond memories of his kindness and generous manner will always hold a place in our hearts. I was shocked and saddened to learn of BJ's passing.  
When BJ lived in Vancouver he kept his plane at (CZBB) Boundary Bay and would call me to say "what are you doing, I've just booked a flight plan - meet me at YXX". So he'd fly out to Abbotsford where I'd climb aboard and we'd fly in over Mission, Pitt Lake, and continue in over Vancouver and back on the south side of the Fraser River and return to YXX. 
On my way to YVR on last weekend I completely lost it when I passed by Boundary Bay Airport in Delta, BC.  I actually had to pull over as I was overcome with tears.  As I sat on the side of Hwy 99 paying my respects to BJ, I managed to regain my composure as I remembered all of the wonderful memories of our friendship over the past 35 yrs.  
Whether BJ was sparing on our ladies curling team with very short notice, booking flight plans, or just stopping in for a visit on his way through; he was always welcomed and always hungry for a home cooked meal. 
 I find comfort thinking of our last visit in October 2012 with a walk along the Bow River in Banff, followed by dinner and beverages at a Pub and a night cap sipping Sortilege before going our separate ways.

Bjarne was a good friend and colleague. I always knew him to be upbeat and full of wonder. His flying days are a testament to that - I still have fond memories of our flight over Vancouver in his plane many years ago. I'll miss him and his Rapunzel-like hair.

I knew Bjarne as a fellow pilot from the Airdrie Airport. He was always very easy to talk to, and regularly attended our club meetings, whenever he was home from work, and would meet some of the boys for lunch at Paul's on Fridays. We talked aviation, and quite often about his job, and the price of gold. He seemed to really like his job, and I remember we tried to calculate how long it would take him to reach the mine in the Skipper! You will be missed greatly in our little circle Bjarne...

We're all in shock at Rosebel Mine. We're going to miss him so much. Bjarne was a good friend, mentor and colleague to many of us here. Some of us were lucky enough to have known him and worked with him for many years. Goodbye my friend.
