Our sincerest condolences to Brigit's family from her old neighbours the Green family.  We had the fortune to live across the green space from Brigit and Alex from 1985 on, until Brigit moved to an apartment a few years back.  Brigit introduced herself when she spotted a recycling bin in front of our house, long before the city of Calgary did any curbside recycling!  We shared our bin with them for quite some time which allowed for more visits. They introduced us to the Community Association as well as the neighbours around the park. Frequent short visits on our dog walks around the park, and the odd coffee together were cherished.  We were so incredibly sorry to hear of Brigit's passing but she has left quite a legacy through her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren and all of us neighbours who will always remember her.  

As I sit and think about Auntie Brigit (my dad’s sister), I have only fond memories. I remember, as a little girl, sitting at our dining room table, writing letters to Auntie Brigit and Uncle Alex. She was always certain to respond and would always send cards for my birthday. I remember one year, she paid for a subscription to Ranger Rick magazine. It was seriously a special treat and the arrival of the monthly magazine was very exciting. 

As mentioned a number of times during the service, Auntie Brigit’s laugh was THE BEST. What an awesome quality to be remembered by! Her laugh accurately depicts her personality and was certainly one of the reasons so many loved her. I’m thankful that this loud contagious laugh runs in the bloodline, and is a quality we can also enjoy from my dad. 

I loved the many road trips our family took to Calgary to visit Auntie Brigit, Uncle Alex and my super cool older cousins who always took the time to play board games and hang out with us. 

As we got older, visits became fewer but just as memorable. Even as adults, my siblings and I could count on receiving a special box of smarties whenever Auntie Brigit and Uncle Alex came to Edmonton. 

We will miss you Auntie Brigit. Thank you for the great memories. 

Thank you to the family for live streaming the service so we could enjoy our memories of Auntie Brigit from home. We are sorry we couldn’t be there to see you all. Maybe someday in the future we will see each other again.

Dear Family Amsterdam,

My condolences on the passing of your mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. I have met her several times at Peter and Anneke's and I remember her as a cheerful and pleasant woman,

It is saddening to hear that our dearest friend, advisor, supporter Brigitta Amsterdam had gone.  Words cannot express our deepest sympathy but her memories never die. 
Brigitta was active. Her presence in our house fills the air with laughers and carried on with compelling discussions. Christmas baking delivered  to our house to share the holiday spirit with her neighbors.  We had many dinners together and shared many laughers.
Once we were away on sabbatical leave and our house was rented to people who came from Ontario on sabbatical leave. They signed a lease agreement which stated that pets are not allowed. One day, they brought  a dog and Birigitta ran across  the street to stop them from bringing the dog into our house. She told the tenant that the family has sever allergy to dog and I am certain you were aware of that. The dog never came again.  This is who Brigitta Amsterdam was. We all miss her presence.

Met ons drieën hebben we een heerlijke jeugd gehad in Den Haag. Jij was de oudste en speelde soms de 2e moeder over ons. We vermaakten ons met veel vrienden en vriendinnen buiten op straat. De gezellige en hechte band is altijd gebleven en daar zijn we heel blij mee. Wij zullen daar vaak aan terugdenken lieve Gitta.

So may memories of Brigitte:
A welcoming Varsity neighbour when when we moved to Calgary in 1966; a day Mom to our younger daughter; a rescuer by taking on my three young children when I had to make a trip to Holland to see my mother for a last time; a hostess in Indian Beach. And all was done with a smile and with ease. And later on, in our retirement years, we visited, never forgetting to bring a little plant.  Brigitte made my life and that of my family richer. A life well lived. Rest in peace, Brigitte.  Also in the name of my family, Ena Beunder.

Ik heb hele fijne herinneringen aan onze vakanties in Canada en jullie vakanties in Nederland. Je had veel humor, was in alles en iedereen geinteresseerd en een "tikkeltje" eigenwijs. Dat maakte  jou een gezellige en fijne gesprekspartner!

I was so sorry to hear of Bridget's passing.  I was lucky enough to be welcomed into the Varsity Ladies  group when my children were in elementary school in the 90's. How fortunate I was to be welcomed by such dedicated community leaders as Alex an  Bridget. I last saw her at a Varsity Ladies lunch  when she was living in what used to be Holly Acres. Still always pleasant and charming.

I'm very sorry to hear about Brigit's passing. She was always welcoming and kind whenever I had the chance to see her.

Brigitta LOVED flowers.  Every time she came to visit, a gift of flowers was in her hands.  She also took great delight and appreciated receiving flowers - especially home grown garden ones.  Her warm heart and smile will be greatly missed.
