Colin was the beloved husband of 29 years to Liz; loving father to daughters Sherri Acres (Les Lang) and Melanie Acres (Rob Morton); dear stepfather to Ronda-Lee Rathwell (Ken Wesolowski), Douglas Creamer (Jordan Dreissen) and Duncan Creamer (Cheney); proud grandfather of Bailey, Kelsey and Mason and great grandfather to Grace. He also leaves behind his sister Kay Dunthorne (Ken), brother Glenn Acres (Ghislaine) and many nieces and nephews.
Colin was predeceased by his son Timothy Acres, grandson Zackariah Rathwell and his brothers Lawrence and Lloyd.
Colin grew up in the Ottawa Valley and it was there that he discovered his love and innate talent for driving trucks. He began his career as a driver for Coca-Cola, then moved to long-haul trucking and at one point had his own water-truck business. He was truly blessed to have discovered a career that was his passion, that he enjoyed thoroughly, and that he was so good at.
Liz and Colin loved to travel, especially cruising. Together, and with friends, they visited many tropical destinations over the years. Upon retirement, they became snowbirds and made the yearly migration to Yuma until 2020, when the trailer was sold. At that time he became a full-on homebody – his travelling days were over.
A man of simple pleasures, Colin loved old cars, Tim Hortons, trucks, butter tarts, and his family. He was an accomplished joke teller and loved to tease people, especially his grandchildren who gave him an outlet for his goofy nature.
He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
