David Yee

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Yee — beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and community leader — who left us too soon on October 8, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 77.

Born on March 12, 1948, in Kaiping, Guangdong, China, David was a man of many talents, deep passions, and a generous heart. A lifelong lover of music, he found joy in playing the violin and sharing his love for traditional Chinese arts. In 1991, he founded the Calgary Harmony of Arts Association, where he taught Cantonese opera to hundreds of students over the years. His dedication to preserving Chinese music and mentoring the next generation left an indelible mark on the community. He was deeply loved and respected for his artistry and his remarkable ability to play a wide variety of musical instruments.

Beyond music, David was an avid tennis player and a true enthusiast of good food. He embraced life with warmth, humor, and a spirit of generosity. His love for his family was unwavering, and he was devoted to his wife, whom he affectionately called “Mommy.” Their enduring love was the heart of the family.

David is survived by his loving wife, Siu Yee Ho; his son, Danny Yee (April Lam); his daughter, Poliana Yee (Remo Tazzi); and his cherished grandchildren: Austin, Lukas, Daniel, Filippo, and Camilla. He also leaves behind many beloved siblings, nieces, nephews, and their families, as well as a wide circle of students and friends who will carry forward his legacy.

A public viewing will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 4 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A Chinese-style funeral ceremony will take place on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., also at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 4 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta.

David will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered. His music and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Foothills Medical Centre through the Calgary Health Foundation, in gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the medical team.

余公銘雅，廣東開平北炎東興里人，生於一九四八年，於二〇二五年十月八日在卡加利安詳辭世，享壽八十一歲。

余公一生熱愛粵樂，通曉多樣樂器，尤精於小提琴，並於1991年在卡加利成立雅韻軒音樂社，致力弘揚傳統藝術，培育後進，桃李滿門。其高風雅韻，永存人心。
