A mainstay in my life for 36 years; I will miss you Don.  Kelly and I will always be with our best friends John and Marilyn and in that you are still with us!

Over the years Don supported the Scandinavian Centre in so many ways--flipping lefse, singing in the choir, and hosting visiting folk dancers, to name only a few. He was a fine, gentle man and we will miss him.

Don and family, we are so very sorry for your loss. Our thoughts are with you through this very difficult time.

A fan, a cheerleader, a supporter and helper for our team at the ball diamond over the last few years. Always available to come into the dugout to keep score for the team and provide an on the bench player and team support. Rain, shine, cold, wind or even snow, always there in his favorite spot with a burger in hand. He will be missed by all, especially at the diamond.

I worked with Don at the U of C.He was a gentleman and a great person with a smile always .May he rest in peace.

It took me no time yesterday, to spot young Don from his platoon picture--the same robust man with a warm smile as the man I have come to know decades later.

I will miss Don's gentle presence and steady voice in the Northminster choir.

Added to my facebook blog today..."We remembered a friend of mine today at Northminster United Church. Honestly, he's my dads age In fact even a few months older. But Don Vestrum has been a kindly influence in my life since I was seven years old. Over and over and over I heard people mention that this man was a tremendous gentlemen, a kind person, a fellow that made each individual feel valuedone who consciously would never criticize anyone. And we remembered and said goodbye to him.

My friend John  his son  would have made him proud could he have heard the words of John and his lovely wife Marilyn. It still baffles me how quickly life moves and how my heroes and mentors are erased by life's ticking clock. It's not a bad thing since time also produces generations like that of my son Joel and of perhaps new generations to follow him.

But as I looked at the walls of Northminster United Church - Calgary - and remembered the years spent there growing up under the watchful eye of men like Don while hanging out with his fun son John, I now remember so many who have going on. Not only Don but an honor roll of people like Ward Smith, Donna Munro, Wilf Honeychurch (who survived the beaches of Dieppe to be humbly laid low by a simple stroke) and my mother Frances who loved that church and it's kind work with all her heart. There are too many names to list here of quality wonderful people yet I've shown a few. The progress of time is a bizarre and wonderful thing. I am so sad that time marches on but I am so proud to follow in the footsteps of so many that I would call heroes.

To the Vestrum fmaily, Don was a dear friend and became a driving force to help me to continue to be in the Northminster church choir.I have known Don since coming to Calgary in 1998.He will be missed. John & Marilyn - Frank and I have known your dad since we joined Northminster United in 1971.  He had a great sense of humor and always made us laugh.  We will surely miss him especially at lunch on Sunday's after church.  We are sorry that we are out of the country for his celebration of life tomorrow but will keep you and your family in our hearts and prayers.  God Bless.

I remember Don the gentleman from the Calgary Protestant Male Choir. It was always a pleasure to to speak with him and share a joke or two ! I am sure you are now singing in God's heavenly choir ! Sing away my friend !

John and Marilyn, I've known you guys since we're probably too small to remember. But one thing that stands out so clearly is how kind and how much of a gentleman Don was. We've long since grown up and moved on, yet I remember those days in Northminster United Church where we all ran around at the feet of our parents and then later on came back for turkey dinners in the fall. In fact just yesterday, I told dad that I would be thrilled to take him back to Northminster for one more of those dinners. In my mind I could see you three sitting together and hoped we get to say hello another time. Now my hope is that your dad and my mom get to sing together again in a reworked choir where voices no longer weaken and fail...

I have fond memories  of Don.  He was a faithful  supporter at North minster  United Churcd. He will be remembered  as a faithful, compassionate  friend.

 Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of  are longtime friend, Don. Don was a  wonderful friend, dedicated father, and one of the best gentleman our family has ever known.  Don and your mom  were friends of my parents Mel and Charlotte for decades. My brothers and I  grew up knowing Don, not only as a friend of our parents, but we considered him an honorary member of our family. My mom, myself and family know Don is up there dancing in the heavens with his beautiful bride Audrey.

My condolences to you all on Don's passing. Don and I worked together at the University for several years.  Don was a hard-working, upbeat and helpful co-worker.  He was a gentleman through and through.  His passing is a loss to all who knew him.

For me Don was a true gentleman who i cherished more like a father figure than a friend.  He always welcomed those who came to his door with open arms and free from judgement.
As the years went by my visits become less frequent but my thought were and always will be with him.

We are so sorry to hear of Don's passing. We knew Don for many years and will miss his warm smile and friendly nature.

I met Don through Barbpbershop singing many years ago.  Over the years we stayed friends.  He was a very kind and generous man.  Rest in peace with a happy song (There is Beauty All Around) my friend.
