Earl passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital with his family by his side.
Earl leaves behind his son Bruce; daughter Kathy (Derek) and his grandchildren Brayden and Rebecca.
Earl was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Nellie; parents Ethel and Benjamin; brothers Keith and Vern.
Earl was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan on May 23, 1931.
Earl came to Calgary as a young man and it was here that he met the love of his life and soul mate, his Nell.
They were married for 62 years and raised a family in their home on Morley Trail, where Earl lived until his passing.
Earl was an avid sportsman, he was a natural at anything he tried. He played hockey, curled, scuba dived, skied and later in his thirties he found the sport he loved and hated – golf! Earl and Bruce played many rounds of golf together and Earl played up until age 85 – not bad!!!
Earl enjoyed watching his son Bruce play hockey and baseball and later on loved to watch his grandkids participate in their sports.
Earl was also passionate about his yard and garden, shirt off, sporting a golden tan Earl spent many hours planting pruning and cutting to make everything look immaculate and it was!
Earl was a hardworking man he spent 37 years with Consolidated Concrete and made many friends along the way.
After Earl and Nell retired they did some travelling and enjoyed their trips immensely.
Unfortunately Nellie was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Earl became her devoted caregiver until her passing in April 2019.
Earl battled cancer courageously for the last year and a half and although we are greatly saddened by his passing it was time for him to be reunited with his Nell and perhaps play a round or two !!
The family would like to thank Doctor Savoie and staff at the Tom Baker for their support as well as the many nurses and health care staff along the way.
Special thanks to Unit 71 at the Rockyview for makings Earl’s last days as comfortable and peaceful as possible.
A Celebration of Earl’s Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Saturday March 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
