Elisabeth "Betty" Wild

Elisabeth “Betty” Wild, beloved mother to James, Richard, Patricia, Douglas, Timothy, Barbara (Frank Garrett), Thomas (Pamela), and Catharine (Dale Lee) passed away in Calgary, AB on Sunday, October 19, 2014.

“Oma” will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Daniel, Christina, Matthew, Natalie, Amanda, Everest, Nina, Jackson, Samuel, Ethan, Sebastian, and Lucas. Also left behind are her great-grandchildren: Josephine, Theodore, and Olivia. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Pawluk; her nieces and nephews, her many relatives in Germany, and her special Friedenstahl girlfriends, Audrey and Adeline. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Theresia Kramer; her husband, Richard Wild; her brother, Bob Kramer and her daughter-in-law, Debra Wild. Mom was born in Fairview, AB to German immigrant parents. She married Richard Peter Wild, whom she met when he came north from Edmonton working with summer road crews. Mom and Dad had 16 years together (and us eight kids) before she was widowed. Mom never remarried and faced the challenge of raising her eight kids alone in Edmonton after her husband died. As a young widow, and through her own strength of will, she put herself through school and embarked on a long and varied career, primarily in the field of dentistry. She retired from the University of Alberta, faculty of Dentistry in 2000. Mom was able to enjoy many years of world-wide travel and always took great joy in attending large family gatherings both in Canada and Germany. Our family would like to thank the staff of the Southwood Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care for our Mother during her eight month battle with cancer.

A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 4 Street N.W., Calgary on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Southwood Hospice, 211 Heritage Drive SE, Calgary AB, T2H 1M9 Telephone (403) 252-0620.
