He attended school in Calgary and later worked at Hansen’s Dairy Farm. It was while working there that he met his wife Margaret and they married on May 25, 1940. Elsdon enlisted in the army in 1940 with the South Alberta Regiment Medicine Hat and served overseas with the 65th Tank Transport in England, Holland, France and Germany before returning home September 25, 1945.
He was employed with the Calgary Brewing and Malting Co. and in 1957 joined the Calgary Transit as a bus operator until his retirement in June 1978. Elsdon was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 1 Branch, served on the executive for many years and as President of the Branch in 1977. He chaired the Calgary Poppy Fund until he moved to Sidney, BC in 1984.
Elsdon, an avid fisherman, golfer and curler also enjoyed bowling until March of this year.
He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 72 years, his daughter Jean (Ron) Holmes and sons Jim (Janet) and Gary (Alice). He was the #1 Grandy for 50 years to Alan, Michael, Kevin, Graham, Katherine and Jason and Great Grandy to Samuel, Melanie, Thomas, Parker, Maclean, Soleil, Dylan and Kale. He also leaves his brother Jack and sisters June and Joyce.
There will be no service as per his wishes.
