Mrs. Elvira Boei

February 7, 1941 – July 22, 2017

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Elvira Boei, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Elvira was born on February 7, 1941, in Coaldale, Alberta and was raised in Pincher Creek, Alberta on her family's farm before settling in Calgary in the early 1960s. In addition to raising her family, Elvira worked at the Baker Sanatorium, Woodwards and Calgary Legal Guidance over her many years in Calgary.

Elvira is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John; son Don Boei; daughter-in-law Kelly Boei; daughter Wendy Hahn; son-in-law Brian Hahn and four grandchildren: Nolan and his partner Alicia, Kallista, Lexi and Ethan Hahn. Also surviving Elvira is her sister Doreen Keith and her husband Bob; brother Garry Janzen and his wife Bev and brother-in-law Ken Caldwell along with many nieces and nephews. Elvira was predeceased by her sister Evelyn Caldwell just weeks ago on June 28, 2017.

Elvira had an incredible spirit, a big heart and enjoyed the company of family and friends. She was especially grateful to all who helped fill the last months of her life’s journey with the joy of regular visits at the Agape Hospice.

Elvira’s family would like to thank the gentle and thoughtful staff at Agape Hospice for their loving care of her over the past year. Family would also like to thank Dr. Grondin, who extended her life 5 years ago with lung cancer surgery; the outstanding medical staff at the Eisenhower Medical Centre in Rancho Mirage, California, for helping her fully recover from a stroke she suffered in 2012, as well as all the other medical professionals who have so thoughtfully cared for Elvira over the last 5 years.

Flowers are gratefully declined. The family asks that memorial donations be made directly to Agape Hospice, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre in Elvira's memory. A Celebration of Elvira’s Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 - 4 Street N.W. (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
