SONGHURST, Emily “Alberta”, January 1, 1920 – August 3, 2011 The 3rd of 4 children born to her parents Charles Edward and Emily G. Songhurst, she was their only daughter. She lived her life with enthusiasm and a positive attitude, leaning on her faith to guide her during good times and bad. She was supported and loved by her family and friends, and in turn she supported and loved them.
Following in her Mother’s footsteps as a member of the Rebekah’s, Alberta was the youngest person to be elected president of the Rebekah Lodge, serving in that capacity from 1952 to 1953. She now passes on the torch as the current longest living past president of the Alberta Chapter. She enjoyed a career of 42 years with the Royal Bank retiring in 1983. After her retirement she shared her knowledge of secretarial administration helping in the Anglican Diocesan office.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law Clare, her nieces Margaret Trottier (Steve) and family, Maureen James (Derek) and family and nephew Peter Songhurst (Maureen) and family. She will also be missed and remembered by her close friends, Archie Adams, Kay Redmond, Peter and Elizabeth Tan and Dave and Wendy Williams, along with her “family of friends” from the Rebekah’s, the Anglican Church, the Royal Bank and the Fountains of Mission Retirement Home. Alberta was predeceased by her infant brothers Edward and Norman, parents Charles and Emily, niece Eileen, nephew David, her beloved brother Frank, and cherished friends Len and Evelyn Woolley.
A service in celebration of her life and a reception to follow will take place at All Saints Traditional Anglican Church, 904 Renfrew Drive N.E., Calgary T2E 5J1 on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 12:00 Noon.
