Florence was born January 29, 1925, to Edward and Rhea Boyer in Brantford, Ontario.
Florence was the middle of three and at a young age the family moved to Peterborough, Ontario. Growing up in the post-depression era Florence would describe the hardships in a matter-of-fact way “we made do, that was all there was”, a philosophy that had served her well for her entire life.
Florence attended PCVS before starting her working career at Bell Telephone and relocated to Toronto with Bell Telephone in 1953. In Toronto she met Alan John Barry at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club. Florence and Alan were married in Peterborough in 1955.
Florence’s career transitioned to full time motherhood as she raised their family of three boys in Toronto, Montreal and back to Toronto before retiring to Peterborough in 1976. Florence and Alan enjoyed their retirement in Peterborough, making many great friends and memories before Alan suddenly passed in 1995.
In 1996 Florence relocated to Calgary Alberta at the age of 70 to be closer to family and never looked back. Florence became active with numerous clubs making many great friends. Her love of bridge was equally matched by her ability. Florence maintained an active life and was proud that she continued to live in her own home to the age of 94. At 94 Florence embraced change once again and moved into community living at The Manor Village at Rocky Ridge where Florence continued to play bridge and make cherished lifelong friends.
Florence was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a truly patient, loving, understanding, principled individual who shared her love with all who knew her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons Mike (Diane), Ted (Heather), Doug (Deb), 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Florence was predeceased by her husband Alan John Cecil Barry, sister Helen McIntyre, and brother Ed Boyer.
We wish, at this time, to thank all the staff at the Manor for the kind service and care and Tony Haberl for his friendship and love.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Florence’s life will be held at a later date.
