It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Floyd Claude Fidler, born on July 19, 1940, and departed from this world on September 13, 2023. Floyd was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a cherished great-grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Floyd and Irene, his beloved wife of 60 years, embarked on their journey together in 1961. They settled in Red Deer in 1971, raising their family and calling it home for the next 52 years. Floyd was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union of Edmonton, Local 488, where he dedicated 55 years of his life. As a pipe fitter, his work took him to various corners of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.
In his youth, Floyd enjoyed the great outdoors; camping and fishing. Later in life, he found solace in the company of family, never missing a Toronto Blue Jays game or his daily dose of "The Young & The Restless." Floyd had a special affinity for the animals in his life, whether they were dogs, cats, or even the family’s pet rabbits. He was a skilled woodworker, crafting rocking horses, planes, motorcycles, and lending his expertise to help others build decks and gym floors.
Floyd's family held a special place in his heart. He relished discussing cars with Dustin and Talon, watching Zach play lacrosse, sharing cooking tips with Dove, exploring maps and history with Alex, and nurturing a love for animals with Brooke. His quick wit and daily jokes brought joy to those around him.
Floyd Claude Fidler will be forever remembered and deeply missed. He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Angie & James Goreham; his grandchildren and their families, Mandy & Dustin Edworthy, Alexandra Goreham, and Zach Goreham; his great-grandchildren and their families, Brooke & Ethan, Talon, and Dove Edworthy; his sisters, Flora Talbot and Jeanne Dembicki, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Irene; daughter Rhonda; parents Claude & Opal; his siblings, David, and Marvel; his brother-in-law Marcian, and sister-in-law Evelyn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local SPCA.
