George, beloved husband of the late Polly McDougall, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. George (Dad/Grandfather) is lovingly remembered by his sons Dan (Liz), and James; his daughter Trish (Marlon); grandsons Trevor (Taera) and Steve; four great grandchildren; nieces and nephews in Calgary and Nova Scotia; as well as many friends who hold his friendship close to their hearts. George began his working career in the McDougall family drugstore in Kentville, Nova Scotia. He attended both Acadia University and Dalhousie Pharmacy College. His work took him to New Brunswick, where his sons were born, and finally onto Calgary where his daughter was added to the family. George continued his work in the pharmaceutical industry until he started his own company, Handiwheels. He eventually retired and spent the next sixteen winters in La Jolla, California, where many precious friendships were made and enjoyed. George’s fun loving and caring nature touched many lives in his 89 years. He was always leading by example and often involved with the youth of his community. He was a Cub Scout leader, a lacrosse coach, and he could always be found with a trail of youngsters following him – to go build this, or go make that run faster. Growing up, he was known for his pranks and continued to be game for any harmless shenanigans that came his way. If you could take his teasing with a smile, you were in the fold forever. A Celebration of George’s memorable life will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at The Eagles Club Calgary (9303 - 5 Street S.E., Calgary) from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in George’s memory directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.ca) or to the Calgary Humane Society (4455 110 Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2C 2T7, or online at http://www.calgaryhumane.ca/).
