Gerald William (Bill) Cook, 80, of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025 surrounded by his immediate family. Bill was born in Pincher Creek, AB on February 16th, 1945. Early in life, he lived in several areas within rural Alberta, settling in Red Deer, then Lacombe as a young adult. He then moved to Calgary, with the love of his life, Lynn. At a young age he became enamoured by automobiles and big machinery, and spent his life working as a heavy equipment operator, an automotive machinist, a mechanic, and a school and chartered bus driver.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lynn, his children, Kellie (Ozzy), Jennifer, Ben (Lori), his four grandchildren, and extended family, all of whom will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred “Bill” and Sophia “Mae,” and siblings, Douglas, Viola, Harold, Dorothy, Vera, and Marjorie.
Bill loved to be surrounded by his family and friends. He liked to keep busy; he could be found working on odd jobs around the house, working in his garage, cooking meals, doing yard work, working on the trailer, putting together jigsaw puzzles, setting up trains, and he especially loved to build Meccano models. But one of his all-time favourite activities was playing with his grandchildren. Bill and Lynn loved nothing more than hooking up the trailer and hitting the road, especially exploring their favourite destinations, Arizona and BC.
Donations in Bill’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
