Dear Moriarty family,
I had the distinct honour of working with Gerry during his employment with Bank of Montreal.  He was a Field Service Officer at the time and I was one of the team who would send him on trips to rectify problems with the ABM machines.  He was a very pleasant gentleman to work with and always wore a smile and had a joke ready to share.  I must apologize for the tardiness of this entry to his guest book.  I only learned of his demise after receiving the latest pensioners newsletter from the BOM just last week.  I am sorry to have missed paying my respects earlier at his memorial.  My deepest condolences to the family on the loss of a wonderful gentleman.

To Ingrid and family....we are so sad to learn of Gerry's passing. He has been a wonderful neighbour for over twenty years. We will miss his smile and sense of humour. Our sincere condolences to you all.  Keep your memories close to your heart.

Remembering Gerald Alfred Moriarity
Precious Memories

I met Gerry back many a year ago, back in the nineteen eighties.  It seems like yesterday, but yet it was almost 40 years ago.   I worked in the corner of the manager's office crunching numbers and pushing through the payroll.  Gerry was a FSO - aka Field Service Officer.  

After a while, I moved into the network room where I was in direct contact with the FSO's throughout the shift.  We all started bright eyed and bushy tailed at 6:00 AM (well some days maybe not so bright eyed), one of the first calls would be from Gerry and partner ready to do servicing at one of the local ABM's.  It would always be a cheerful call.  It was work, yes but, in those days, work was mixed with a lot of fun; something that can't be said of other jobs throughout our careers. 

There was an active social life after BMO work was done.  I remember Gerry coming over to the apartment one afternoon.  The place was normally big enough all right; on that particular day it seemed to be bursting at the seams with people.  Outside on the balcony, there I sat, on top of the railing with my feet twisted in them, some 28 floors up.  Gerry came out to talk to me.  Taking one look at where I was, and how precariously balanced I appeared to be, he turned white as a ghost and went back in the living room refusing to return.  

I remember occasions where I would miss getting the totals for an ABM, or perhaps pull the wrong ones.  I would need Gerry and partner to go back to a location in order that we get everything in sync.  I never heard a complaint from him ... all in a day's work ... he always had your back, a great team player.  Sometimes the work day would be technically over, and a machine would go down and it really wasn't on their way back to the office.  One could count on a detour being placed into their trip to bring the machine back up before they called it quits.  Many a person benefited from his willingness to do what needed to be done, his willingness to get it right.  The customer and the team always came first.  To take a term from today's advertising, it was the "BMO effect".  In this case however I'd like to suggest that a more appropriate and accurate phrase is the Gerry  effect. 

Since my retirement, Gerry and I shared the joy, and occasionally the sorrows, of being Hab's fans.  I spend half of my time in the Maritimes where it is more socially acceptable to cheer for Montreal.  I figure Gerry took a lot more razzing on his choice of hockey teams than I did.  But gosh be darned, he had it right you must admit, although I realize that there are some people who have yet to realize this fact.  I'm sure Gerry will be watching over P.K. One could call P.K. the last Canadien standing; mind you he's wearing the wrong uniform.  

Gerry, I pray that you are listening today because mon ami I have another favour to ask.  When you have your next one on one with our God, please make your case for la Coupe Stanley pour les Habs  next season please. Bring and keep the Cup north of the border where there is no team more deserving than the Montreal Canadiens. 

It was easy to remember Gerry's birthday, December 1st as it was one day before mine.  We didn't count the years; so he was always just one day older than me. 
Today, I salute and say good-bye to the man with a big heart, a great friend and a co-worker. Together today we laugh, we hug, we remember old stories. Emotions change on a dime from moment to moment.   We realize how our lives have been touched by his.  It is my honour and privilege to have shared time together.  Gerald Alfred, I'll remember you as long as the brain's memory cells are active. It is indeed collectively our duty to ensure that the memories remain alive and shared,  
memories, 
precious memories.

To Ingrid and the Moriarty family,
We were shocked to hear of Gerald's passing and want to offer you our sincere condolences on this sad occasion. Although we met Gerald on too few occasions we were always impressed with his jovial attitude. Gerald was always the life of the party and somehow 'lit up the room' with his presence and sense of humour. He will be sorely missed. May he rest in Peace. As we used to say in Ireland "Ar deis lamh De go raib a anam" (May his soul be at the right hand of God).

You will be missed.. My condolences to the Moriarty family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. 

I worked with Jerry at BMO for 10yrs. We had a few things in common. GO Habs Go, and both of Irish descent.
