I happened to come across Gordon Wallace McPhee's obituary while surfing on the internet. I am curious to know his paternal line of ancestors. Can the family trace their McPhee line back to Scotland, and, if so, where did they come from? I was a "Fowler Brat" between the years 1980-1982 and a proud graduate of the high school. Besides academics, I spent much of my high school years in Gordon's welding classes and the school's well equipped welding shop. 

I learned so much from Gordon as he had such a presence and a remarkable ability to connect with so many of us during those years. Gordon was a problem solver and instilled upon us that a "welder can do anything " 

I carried over much of his influence into my adult life and have never forgotten how much I appreciated his kindness and sincere consideration during those years. 

Following graduation, I intended upon pursuing a profession in welding, however, due to economic uncertainty in Alberta in the early 1980's, I returned to school and settled into a promising career with the Calgary Police Service. 

I still enjoy welding and metal manufacturing to this very day and have transitioned what I learned from Gordon during those early years to my children. 

My thoughts and prayers are with the McPhee Family, relatives and dear friends during your time of loss. Be comforted that Gordon left a legacy of experiences and memories that many of us will never forget.

To the Mcphee family, I am saddened to hear of the passing of my all time favorite teacher. Although our paths never crossed after I finished my welding class with him in 1971 his name came up often when conversation came up about high school.
 I have many favorite memories of Mr. Mcphee but the one that stands out the most is when he helped me prepare my 1951 Dodge car for a demolition derby at Circle Eight Speedway. When I was told I was too young to enter he volunteered to drive the car for me. We never won but it was a fun experience for all. Mr. Mcphee left his mark on me and I will always remember him. I wish I could have been there with you all today, instead I watched and listened. I did a lot of watching and listening when I spent time with Gordon and the rest of the family, what I observed went a long way to helping me become the man I am today. I am so glad I got a chance to visit in March, it was a pleasure to see both of you again. Thank you both for being there for me.

Linda, my deepest sympathies to you and your family on Gord's passing. He truly was a Master Teacher, role model, and friend. His teachings were not just confined to the classroom subject, but to life as a whole. He taught one to do their best in all of life's endeavours, an important lesson never forgotten from a man that will always hold a special place in my heart.
May you take comfort knowing my thoughts are with you in celebrating a life well lived, from one who's life he touched.

Mr McPhee the" Sam Elliot "Hero of my highschool days. The only man in James Fowler that walked straight,tall, always pressed shirt and pants wearing a sports jacket that all the girls followed just to hear his deep voice and his riding boots clicking the floor. All us boys followed him and tried to act like him so the girls might also take note to us. Thank you Mr Mcphee for teaching me to work hard ,be respectfull and enjoy and be proud of what we do each day.Mr Mcphee structured me to be the man I am today and I will always look back to those times. Oh,Lynda.  I am terribly sorry to read of Gord's passing.  I think you know how much I loved him.  He was a great teacher, admired by both students and staff 
 (even revered by some)  He was a fearless, gentle but effective leader. He gave me so much support when  needed it most.  He was my friend.  Dave Watson said it right.  My heart is weeping.too.

Sending all our love to Lynda, Dwight , Michelle & all Gordon's family at this sad time . We were very grateful to of had a visit from Gordon and Lynda in Australia . Wish we were there to celebrate Gordon's life with you all . Memories are precious .

My heart is weeping, Gord and I spent a lot of time together and survived the trials of teaching, he was a mentor and friend... to Lynda and the family Irene and I will always remember Gord, to you our deepest sympathy and love.
