It was with heavy hearts that Patricia and I attended the memorial service for our wonderful friend, Harold.
Harold would have been so proud that so many of his family, friends and associates came to honour this caring friend and gentleman.
Your family members did justice to his memory and showed the love and affection he bestowed on each of you and yours in return to him.
Patricia and I valued the friendship we shared with you and Harold, Donna. The quiet dinners, the lively debates and the many happy hours we shared--until we got into the discussion of politics! Donna, you and Patricia would wisely steer the conversation to 'larger issues'--certainly less heated!
We respected Harold for his dedication to so many wonderful causes and interests that he embraced and  especially for his sense of Family and loyalty to Friends.
Harold was one of the Great Guys!
He will be missed by all of us.

To the Millican Family;

Your family and ours will always be joined by a very special bond.  As children, we grew-up with you. As young adults, we learned from you. 

Among my earliest memories was Harold as the first 'real cowboy' that I had ever known.  As a person, Harold always had a 'gruff' exterior that belied the gentle man that we came to know and love so well.  

Harold was a great mentor and friend to me, personally, as well as to my father.  I had the great privilege of serving with Harold at the Office of the Alberta Trade Representative.  I will always remember the way in which he defended the interests of our Province and our Country during the negotiations with the United States over Free Trade.  Many of the then-burgeoning industries in Alberta that he predicted would become the key issues of the future have now come to pass.  Harold had a unique ability to look at complex problems and quickly distil its essence, a rare gift, indeed. 

It was with great sadness that we marked Harold's passing, we are all lessened by it.  Giulia, James and I offer you our sincerest condolences.

I had the pleasure of seeing Harold out and about often over the years and at one point, back in 1993, asked for his time and counsel when running in that year's Alberta Provincial Election. Donna and Family - thinking of you.  I was saddened to read of Harold's passing.  I worked with him at Merrill Lynch and on my last day with the firm he took me flying around Calgary.  He was a fine man, an exemplary human being and an outstanding citizen of Calgary.  One of the first things he told me was that you and I shared the same name.  We were all lucky to have the pleasure of meeting him and having him in our lives.

Peter first met Harold when they both worked at Merrill Lynch in the '70s, & we often interracted with him in political circles. He was a nice person, & a power behind the scenes. Our sympathy to all, especially Deb & David. Mary & Peter Maxie

Donna: Harold was such a passionate believer and participant in Red Deer Lake United CHurch in all of its growing times. Thank you for sharing him with the church. Harold was a dedicated Albertan and Canadian. During the Canada/US Free Trade negotiations, he represented Alberta's interests with vigour,adroitness and common sense.I had the role as the lead Minister for Alberta on the topic during that challenging time and was always confident that he was on top of the issues and carrying out his role with skill and proficiency. He had the respect of his colleagues and of the other governments at the table. In many other ways, he served his Province with distinction, his family can be very proud of his accomplishments. Betty joins me in sending our regards to Donna and the family members who will miss him. Rest assured that his memory will be shared by a host of friends whose lives he touched.

"Uncle Harold" was such a wonderful man. He was so kind and loving to my father over the last years of his life, going for their lunches and making sure he visited often. He would always tell us he was dad's "best friend" and "stood up for him at his wedding to mom"! He was very kind and generous and will be missed by our family.
