Heinz was born March 14, 1930 in Schreiberhau Germany to Georg and Margarete (nee Lorence) Feist. He immigrated to Canada in October 1951 and worked in the gold mines of Northern Ontario where he made some lifelong friends. In 1952 he tried to come west to Edmonton, but his funds only got him as far as Calgary where he met his soulmate and the love of his life Hildegard Stemke. He would jokingly say that he married Hildegard for her money. Heinz and Hildegard married in September 1953 and shared 69 years together, two children, Ingrid and Roland, four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Heinz was a faithful member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Calgary, since 1952, ushering in the German Service for 40 years.
Heinz worked as a B Welder for many years but his true passion was carpentry and building multiple homes, the last of which was in the Shuswap, where he loved to spend summers on the beach with friends and family. He was a devoted family man with an infectious smile and will be lovingly remembered and immensely missed.
Heinz is survived by his loving wife Hildegard; his children Ingrid (Doug) and Roland (May-britt); his grandchildren Brayden (Kellie), Kelsey, Michelle (Steve) and Nicole (Jared); and great-granddaughters Savannah and Scarlett.
Heinz is also survived by his sister-in-law Sieglinde Feist, and numerous nieces and nephews in Calgary, Medicine Hat, Oakville, Vancouver and abroad.
He is predeceased by his parents, and siblings Inge, Dieter and Christa.
