November 4, 1919 – April 30, 2012
On April 30, 2012, Helen Seymour passed away peacefully at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary. Predeceased by parents, Francis and Margaret Seymour, brother and sister-in-law Fred and Marguerite Seymour and sister Alison Vaness. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her nieces Alison Seymour, Sharon Romero, Diane Eyre (Michael) and grandniece Catherine Cooke (Mason) together with their children Cameron and Natalie. Born in Fort Macleod, AB, Helen moved with her family to Calgary where she attended public schools. Upon graduation, she entered the training program for nurses at the Calgary General Hospital, completing her certification in 1943. A further diploma in public health from the University of Alberta launched her long career in the field, where she became supervisor of the Calgary North Hill Public Health Clinic. Always demonstrating a keen interest in her chosen profession, Helen was recognized by friends, family and colleagues as a nurse extraordinaire, who responded unstintingly in caring for those experiencing health issues. A true Albertan, Helen enjoyed hikes in the Rocky Mountains, autumn visits to the Foothills to see the changing colors, and tending to the landscaping of her garden when she lived in Hounsfield Heights in northwest Calgary. Friends will remember her creative talents in decorating for the Christmas season and for her many baking accomplishments served with a good cup of tea. Her nieces remember a loving aunt who always took a keen interest in their lives. Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to close family friends Lillian and Ed Tickles for the loving care and attention they devoted to Helen over a period of many years, and to the staff at the Chinook Care Centre. A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Alzheimer Society of Calgary, 201, 222 – 58 Avenue S.W.
