Henry San Wong passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on February 13, 2011 at the age of 78. Born in Taishan, China, Henry immigrated to Canada in 1954. He attended bible school at Caronport, SK for two years before moving to Swift Current, SK to work with his father at the Modern Café. During his career, Henry owned and operated restaurants in Hodgeville, SK, Swift Current, and Calgary. Henry is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Lillian, children Donald (Maisie) Wong, Gordon (Patti) Wong, and David Wong and grandchildren Janice, Brian, Michelle, Christopher, Katherine, and Amanda. The eldest of five, he will also be missed by his siblings, May (Bill) Ives, Jean (Stan) Mah, Jack (May) Wong and Alice (Rick) Jim and their children Allison, Nathan, Elizabeth, Patrick, Shawn, Zachary, Steven, and Heather. He was predeceased by his parents Lai Kee Wong and Fong Gee Wong. Henry’s top priority was his family and providing them with a better life. He was a generous, hard working, loving person who offered encouragement to others and a great role model. In 1998, Henry was baptized at the Calgary Alliance Church. He found great strength in the Lord and valued his friendships with members of the congregation. Visitation will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street NW (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, February 18, 2011 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 10:00AM with Pastor Albert Law officiating. Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alberta Lung Association P.O. Box 4700, Station South, Edmonton, AB T6E 9Z9. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
