Ilona M Friedl

Ilona Maria Friedl passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2015 when the Lord Jesus called her home at the age of 73 years. Ilona is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gerhard Friedl; her three sons Richard (Brenda), Robert and Mark and her grandson Thomas. She will be forever loved and missed by her entire extended family including her brother Helmut (Margaret), nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Franz and Maria Reisinger. Ilona was born in Vienna, Austria on December 24, 1941. She immigrated to Canada with her parents and brother in 1961 where she was enrolled at Western Canada High School in Calgary. It was there she met the love of her life, Gerhard Friedl. She was a kind and gentle soul who loved gardening, knitting and had a passion especially for flowers. Ilona was an excellent homemaker, cook and supporter of a Christian family. She was an administrative assistant and worked for the department of Revenue Canada, Banker's Hall CIBC and the Hudson’s Bay Company of Canada. Ilona spent many hours with family and friends at her two homes in Calgary and Sundre. Ilona was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and fought a brave battle for 10 years. She was an amazing mother, caring and concerned about the small details and welfare of those remaining, even at the end of her life. The Friedl family would like to thank the Urban Palliative Home-care nurses for providing excellent care and service to Ilona and family. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
