February 19, 1926 – April 5, 2012
It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Jack who left us peacefully on Thursday, April 5, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born in Calgary and worked and lived his entire life near here. Amongst his many accomplishments his love of singing and his long career as a Landman would certainly provide him with the foundations of his many stories. He had an incredible memory for names of people and could recite with confidence the place and date and occasion of their first meetings. Jack was a kind and thoughtful man to the end although his patience could sometimes run a little thin in the last few years; he had a lot of things to get done and didn't like any road blocks between him and his goals. He worried about his family and even to the end was more concerned with their comfort and safety than his own difficulties. Jack is survived by his wife, Georgia Macnab Brown and his son John (Brenda) and was predeceased by his sons Brent in 2011, and Kelly in 2009. As well he leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Patricia, eight grandchildren, Paul (Terri-Lynn), Matt (Michelle), Ryan, Caron, Christopher, Remee, Rebecca (Vedran), and Lacey (Clayton) and 6 great grandchildren. A friend of his once said Jack is a man who never heard a word that didn't remind him of story, and although his story here has ended Jack and his stories will live on in the memories of many. A Memorial Servicewas held at Knox United Church, 506 – 4 Street S.W., Calgary on Thursday April 12, 2012 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to one of Jack's favourite organizations YMCA Calgary Strongkids Program c/o YMCA Calgary, 101 – 3 Street S.W., Calgary, AB, T2P 4G6. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
