The family of Jean Anderson is deeply saddened to announce her passing on August 21, 2025 in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 98 years.
Mom was born July 27, 1927, in Rossington, England. Her parents Selina and Michael Wilkinson brought mom and her older brother John (Jack) to Canada in 1929 and settled on a farm in central Alberta. Sisters Phyllis, Dorothy, and Maxine and brother Alexander (Alex) added to the family. Mom worked in the Red and White Store in Kinsella, Alberta where she met her husband of 71 years, William Andrew Anderson (Bill), whom she married on November 27, 1946. Bill worked in the oil patch but after a few years in various small towns in Alberta, they settled in Edmonton, then moved to Calgary in 1956, where they resided together until Bill’s passing in 2017.
Mom volunteered in many of her children’s activities all through their school years. When the nest was (partly) empty, she proudly worked at Woodwards. She was also an avid curler, golfer and member of the Calgary Oil Wives Club for over 70 years. She loved to socialize, dance and sing.
Mom is sadly missed by her children Karen (Jim) Thomson, Laura Rogers, Bill (Eileen) Anderson and Cathy (Glenn) Forsyth. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her husband Bill, son-in-law Mike Rogers, granddaughter Deena McLeod and Mom's brothers and sisters.
Funeral arrangements have been made through South Calgary Funeral Center, 12700 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, AB T2J 7E5. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
