Jennie Alice (née Welychka) Rasmussen

Beloved “Maui” fell asleep with the Lord on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Jennie was adored and admired by her family: son William “Bill” Wagner; daughter Maureen (Lorne) Prokopy, grandchildren William, Jordan (Matthew Killi) and Shane, and great-granddaughter Jaime Killi; daughter Catherine (Jack) Bull, grandsons James (Natascha Wellstein) and Michael; son Russell (Helen) Wagner, grandsons Stephen and Matthew (Lauren Wagner), and great-granddaughter Alina Wagner; and niece-daughter Dawn McArthur. She is also survived by her dear sister, Mary Elias, cherished nieces and nephews, cousins and family.

Jennie’s greatest suffering was the death of her eldest son Bill Wagner in 1981. He was forever loved, forever missed, but forever present in her life. She was also left to mourn her loving parents, Leon (1973) and Annie (1993) Welychka; dear sister, Lily McArthur (1992); special niece, Mary Anne Nicholls (2016); and other close family members and friends.

Jennie had many passions, most especially her family, her Orthodox faith and Ukrainian heritage. She was a naturally thankful, engaging, tolerant, gracious, and forgiving person. In her life she truly enjoyed people and had a genuine affection for most, especially her family, friends, church congregation, neighbours and co-workers. Jennie remembered the happy times with Dr. Roy Rasmussen (Papa Roy) and his family. In spite of loss, challenge, and old age, Jennie was always able to find happiness and continued to recognize and appreciate God’s Blessings throughout her life.

We would like to share a very special thank-you and love to Father Taras Krochak, Dobr. Donna Krochak, Penny Pritchett, Dr. Lyne Audet, all the staff at Millrise Place for providing a beautiful home with excellent care for our Mother, and Unit 47 at the Rockyview General Hospital where Jennie was so tenderly cared for.

The Funeral Service for Jennie will be held at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 404 Meredith Rd NE, Calgary, AB, on Monday, May 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Rosedale Hospice, 920 - 7a Street NW, Calgary, AB T2M 3J4, where Jennie volunteered for 10 years.
