Mrs. Schauerte as I must refer to her as, was my grade 6 teacher at Corpus Christi School in 1986.  Teachers have an amazing ability to connect with their students and she was able to do that for me.  Her passion and love for teaching and learning are still with me today.  I have been a teacher for nearly 20 years and Mrs. Shauerte is one of three teachers who inspired me to become an educator.  I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Shauerte family and may your memories of Mrs. Shauerte bring you comfort and peace.

I have such fond memories of Grade 5 & 6 with Mrs. Schauerte! She was such a caring and involved teacher. I still remember hearing the stories about her life growing up on a farm, or listening to her read The Hand of Robin Squires. Rest in peace!

My sincere sympathies are extended to Joan's family. I worked with her at Corpus Christi for many years and again in later years as she subbed in various schools. She was the greatest of teachers and Marcelo described her beautifully. Joan's love of teaching and the written word was her inspiration to all of us. Rest in heavenly peace Joan. You will never be forgotten.

My deepest sympathy to the Schauerte family.  I taught with Joan at Corpus Christi School in the '80s and have many good memories of her.  She was an excellent teacher and a respected colleague. I remember her smile and kindness. It was a privilege to work with her.

I must echo the words of her students. Even though she never taught me sh was one of those teachers that everyone knew and loved.  She did however teach my brother and helped mold the wonderful man he became. I made contact with her a few years ago through her daughter Lori who I worked with.  My visit with her turned out be be so much more than I ever expected.  Mrs Schauerte taught my brother in her first years of teaching and became pregnant with her first daughter during that time. She regaled me with stories of my mother kindness to her and of talks they had.  This was all new information to me and having had already lost my mother was so so special.  We did talk of my brother and "the boys".  At this point my brother had been diagnosed with cancer but the next time he was in town he and a couple of friends went to vsit their favorite teacher. After the visit you could not wipe the smile off his face. He spoke of their visit often until he passed and the fact that Whinny the Pooh had always been his favorite book thanks to this wonderful woman.  May all your great memories sustain you through this difficult time and for the rest of your lives.

My thoughts and prayers for the family of this very special lady. She will always have a place in my heart. I will always cherish our conversation this past July in Lethbridge her hugs  from that weekend will always be with me . The hockey games and talks about Brady and Carson will be forever remembered in my memory. She was a angel

We are so very saddened to hear of Mrs.Schauertes passing. She taught my husband and brother in a 4/5 split as their homeroom teacher and she also taught me grade 5 social studies at St.Peter elementary many years ago. My husband and I were just talking about her a few days ago as our sons started grade 1 & 2 at the same school. She sure made a wonderful impression our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. The Noseworthy family.

Joan Schauerte was my grade 4 and grade 5 teacher at St. Margaret School in NW Calgary in the mid 1960's. All the students loved her. She was not only an excellent teacher, but she had a tremendous influence on the development of my confidence as a young girl. Very sorry to hear of your loss of this remarkable woman.

I am saddened to hear of Joan's death. She was a remarkable lady who raise such wonderful women. She influenced hundreds of children during her years as a teacher. She was a fabulous grandmother. The world is a  better place because her.

Dear Pam and the rest of the Schauertes,
I'm sorry to read of the loss of your mom.  I remember her when we were over visiting at your house during our school days, Pam.  She was so friendly and good natured.  She was obviously well-loved and will be missed.  My thoughts are with you.

My name is Marcello Di Cintio and I am a writer based in Calgary. There are very few teachers I've had over the years who I could honestly thank for the career I've chosen. Mrs. Schauerte tops that short list. Back in grades five and six, in the mid-1980s, she taught me to love the English language, learn its rules, and harness them to tell stories. Her grammar lessons echo in my head every time I sit down to write. (I can picture her shaking her head at me whenever I start a sentence with 'and.') I cringe at how disappointed she'd be at what my handwriting has become.

Last December, from out of nowhere, Mrs. Schauerte left a message on my blog telling me that she reads my work. This is the highest praise I could imagine, for there would have been no work without her.

My son started grade three yesterday. If, over the course of his entire school career, he has even one teacher as gifted as Joan Schauerte he will be blessed. She was a remarkable person, and will be mourned by every student she ever taught.

My heart is heavy that we have lost such a fun, caring soul! The world is a little dimmer with her gone.
Im honoured that I was able to experience Mrs Schauerte in my life...her love, her laughter and at times her straightness! She always expected great things from every person she encountered and it left you not wanting to disappoint her. Thank you Mrs Schauerte for believing in me.

To Joan's family especially Sue and Brady I send condolences. She loved her grandchildren. I had the privilege to teach Brady and got to see Joan often. Rest in peace lovely lady.

Today, as I start my 25th year of teaching, I fondly remember my mentor, Joan, from her last year and my first of teaching. We had some wonderful times together at St. Peter school. Lots of laughs and lots of tears. I will treasure all of the lessons she taught me about being a teacher, a friends and a mom. My prayers are with your family.

Still the best teacher ever..I believe she remembered and recognized every student she ever taught.  A blessing to have been in her grade 5 class and to have had an opportunity to teach her daughters.

I am deeply saddened that I will not see Mrs Schauerte when I return to Canada for a visit later this month. She was an integral part of my childhood and teenage years. xo God Speed Joan, your loving husband awaits xo

We have lost a very sincere, honest, loveable lady of all times.  Joan opened her heart and home to all who wanted help and comfort. The world has lost the most wonderful woman, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. I used her shoulder to cry on more than once.  She was the best teacher and honorary mom that anyone could want. For my 11th birthday, she gave me an autograph book in which she wrote "May your life be like a rose, ever unfolding to reveal the beauty within". She will be remembered and missed by so many.

Dear Schaurete girls...my heart breaks.  Benson Road has lost one fine lady, longtime neighbor and friend.  We will always remember her.  I can't imagine going to mom and dads now without looking over to the Schaurete home without Joan's light on.  She was a wonderful light in our lives.  She will be missed.  May she rest in peace with your dear dad.   Know that you and your families are all in our thoughts.
