John passed away peacefully at the Carewest, Sarcee Hospice, Calgary at the age of 89 years. He was a loving father to Carol (Bill), Janet (Trekker) and Craig (Christine). He was also the proud grandfather of Kalon, Connor, Tatum, Chad, Todd, Bailey and Dustin. He is survived by his brothers Bill and Eddie and his sisters Lynne and Marge. John was predeceased by his loving parents, Michael and Doris Andrichuk, and his brothers George and Mike. John was born in Downing, Alberta. He received his PhD in Geology, at Northwestern University. He was very active in geological research, and published many scientific papers, in journals, later becoming interested in the study of reefs. In 1956, he went into partnership with Dr. Ralph Edie, PhD Geology. They had a firm that was named Andrichuk and Edie Independent Geologists. They continued consulting, exploration and research, and received many awards for their geological publications. They continued their partnership in geology for 51 years. Dr. Edie passed away in 2007. John worked two years longer and retired in 2009. He suddenly became ill in 2010 and was diagnosed with a progressive illness, called Lewy Body Dementia, which caused him to lose all his memory by the year 2016. It was devastating to realize how ill he was. Perhaps there will be a cure for others in the future from research. Our family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and caregivers who helped John at a very difficult time. A private service with immediate family was held on Sunday, May 29, 2016. If so desired, condolences may be mailed to: Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2M 3A5.
