Kathy left us far too soon on Saturday, July 23, 2022 surrounded by her husband and daughters to be reunited with her parents. Kathy was born on November 25, 1943, the only child of Claire and Gil Rosie.
Kathy grew up in Winnipeg and enjoyed spending summers at the cottage at Victoria Beach. It was a place she loved and shared with her daughters as they grew up. In the spring of 1964, she met Mel, the love of her life. They were married on July 10, 1965 and immediately embarked on their lives of travels and adventures. They spent 25 years living and raising their family in Drayton Valley, Calgary, Edmonton and Chicago. The next 20 years were spent living as expats in Trinidad and Tobago, Republic of Congo, Cyprus, Egypt and the United Kingdom where they established many friendships. She wasn't just a tourist in these places but enjoyed fully participating in community life and had a lasting impact on the people she touched. Returning to Canada in 2010, they spent their retirement years between Calgary and Palm Springs.
She was a bit of a renaissance woman. Kathy loved adventure travel and experiencing different cultures. She always said "Travel while you can because you never know when something might happen to ground you." Consequently they went on numerous ocean and river cruises. She had an eclectic taste in movies, was a voracious reader (particularly of cookbooks and romance novels) and loved to cook. She thrived on entertaining and people often commented on her generous hospitality. Having a keen eye for fashion and design, she was always looking to keep up with and share the trends (though she never followed them blindly).
Kathy was a strong woman who was blessed with great determination and willpower. Her pixie nose, impish gleam in her eyes, great sense of humour and infectious laughter could light up the darkest room.
She will be greatly missed by her loving husband Mel, dedicated daughters Larissa (Andrew) Bissett, Charla (Sean) Monner, grandchildren William and Autumn Bissett in addition to many extended family and friends
A celebration of Kathy's life will be announced in the near future where we will join with friends and loved ones to share wonderful memories.
In lieu of flowers we welcome you to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at https://www.heartandstroke.ca in Kathy's memory.
