Kting Wong, beloved husband of King Chun Wong of Calgary peacefully passed away, surrounded by family on October 5, 2024, at the age of 94. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he leaves behind his wife King Chun, 4 children, and 6 grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Jason (Faye) of Calgary, Susan (Jeff) of Calgary, Elizabeth (Gordon) of Lethbridge, and Thomas (Lyanne) of Calgary; and grandchildren Jolene (Fraser), Jordan, Ryan (Delaney), Erik, Rachael (Christopher), and Candace.
Kting Wong was born on June 29, 1930 in Canton, Toishan, China. Like much of China at that time, Kting and his mother struggled until they were able to move to Hong Kong. Kting and King Chun were married in 1956 and began their family. In 1971, when Dad was 41 and Mom was 36, they ventured around the world with their 4 young children to Winnipeg, Manitoba, hoping that the family dream of a better future was worth the risk of leaving their home and country.
In Winnipeg, Dad worked endless hours to support his family as a cook in Chinese restaurants, until his retirement in 1988. Dad believed that education was critical for success in Canada. He was proud of his kids and happily supported them in their academic pursuits. Family, friends and food were very important to him. He was passionate about their many memorable dinners.
After 20 years in Winnipeg, Dad and Mom moved to Calgary in 1991. Once again, they left home and friends to support their children in a new city. For the past 33 years, they have embraced Calgary, enjoyed their retirement and selflessly shared their time with family.
Dad enjoyed remarkably good health and independence until the past year. He maintained his driver's licence until the age of 90. Dad was very proud of his driving skills, which he perfected as a double decker-bus driver in Hong Kong. Dad and Mom spent a lot of their time exploring Calgary and chauffeuring their grandchildren around town. In his retirement years, Dad travelled to many parts of the world but especially enjoyed family vacations to warm resorts.
Dad and Mom were married for 68 years. They lived a happy and simple life, filled with gratitude, humility and grace. They were very proud of their children and grandchildren. They would be the first to say that their dream came true: All the family was together until the very end.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Grace Le and her staff for their compassion, kindness and incredible care over the many years. Also, over the past year, our Dad could not have remained at home without the exceptional support of caregivers Sandy, Mo, and Maricel.
Most of all, we need to recognize our Mom. She tirelessly took care of dad and helped him to remain at home until the end. They could not have lived independently at home without her selflessness, determination, incredible work ethic and strength. Mom, you are the best.
Dad. Rest in peace, you will always be in our hearts.
