Lind Gloria Anderson passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the age of 92. She was born on the family farm near Readlyn, Saskatchewan, to Reinhold and Myrtle Dahlman, the eldest of eight siblings, and grew into a woman whose life exemplified grace, love, and service.
Lind was an extraordinary individual whose life was defined by her faith, family, and a deep commitment to others. A bright and dedicated student, she completed two grades in one year during public school. She began her career as a teacher in a rural school, instilling her love of learning in her students. In 1952, she married her childhood sweetheart, Larry Anderson, beginning a life filled with love and adventure.
The couple welcomed their first child, Kevin, in 1954. Debbie was born in 1958. This was right before the family moved to Flint, Michigan, where Larry completed his medical internship. After a move back to Saskatchewan and then British Columbia, in 1962, Lind gave birth to Jennifer, who tragically passed away at three months old. Jamie was born in 1963 during the family’s time in Port Alberni, where they lived on and off for 16 years.
After Larry’s passing at the age of 73, Lind found love later in life and married Tom Taylor. Together, they shared a time filled with companionship. They enjoyed trips together to the US and to Europe on a cruise, before Tom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. With her characteristic love and grace, Lind cared for Tom during his illness, standing by him with the same devotion she brought to all aspects of her life.
Lind’s life was a rich tapestry of family, service, hospitality, and adventure. She created a home that welcomed family and friends alike, filling it with warmth, delicious meals, and an open heart. Her love of cooking and baking was an extension of her care for others, as she delighted in preparing meals for gatherings that brought people together. Whether hosting a dinner party, organizing a family outing, welcoming guests for visits, or tending her beautiful flower gardens to both enjoy and share with loved ones, Lind’s hospitality was an expression of her love and generosity.
She studied piano and voice, directed music ministries, and served as secretary to the ULLR Ski Club at Forbidden Plateau, where the family learned to ski. Summers were spent boating, hiking, and enjoying family outings with close friends. Lind also found joy in leading a Brownie Pack as “Brown Owl” and later pursued leadership roles with organizations like Women’s Aglow and St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Qualicum Beach.
Her curiosity of family roots took her to Sweden and Norway with her parents and sister. She enjoyed trips to Hawaii with her husband, various trips with adult children and siblings, as well as skiing adventures at Mount Hood, Lake Tahoe, and Whistler, among others. In recent years and up until her stroke in July 2024, she enjoyed traveling to be with family including to Mexico for a 90th Birthday celebration. Whether gardening, managing Larry’s medical practice, or volunteering in numerous roles—including as a Hospice volunteer and representative for the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund—Lind’s life was marked by thoughtfulness and service.
A gifted musician, Lind ministered through music for decades. She served as Choir Director, Music Director, and keyboardist at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, as well as holding roles on the parish council, worship committee, and outreach committee. She cherished these opportunities to connect with her community and practice her faith.
Through all the moves, roles, and adventures, Lind’s greatest joys were the love she shared with her childhood sweetheart, Larry, and her later-life companion, Tom, as well as her cherished children, siblings, and extended family. She deeply valued the bonds she shared with her loved ones and celebrated these connections, even creating a family music CD with her siblings while they also visited to commemorate her 50th wedding anniversary.
Lind found profound meaning in her relationship with Jesus Christ and in the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Recently, she shared a core message that she felt was deeply relatable: "God is love."
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kevin (Cathy) of Fort McMurray, Deborah (Nolan) of Barra de Navidad, and Jamie (Allen) of Calgary; her grandchildren, James (Angie), Darian (Andrew), Courtney, Gregory (Samantha), Steffany, Mark, and step-grandson Michael; her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Hailey, Piper, Asher, Parker, and Oliver; her siblings, Deanna (Henry), Donna, Elin (Iver), and Vicki (Ron); her former son-in-law, Ken Simmonds; as well as her extended family.
Lind was predeceased by her first husband, Larry, her second husband, Tom, her siblings Marlene, Rodney, and Gayla, and her infant daughter, Jennifer.
The funeral service to celebrate Lind’s extraordinary life will be in Qualicum Beach, BC, at St. Mark’s Anglican Church on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Her legacy of love, kindness, hospitality, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
